Hello, and thank you so very much for popping by to look at my new website and read my blog.
It’s been a long, long time since I last attempted blogging, I couldn’t really get to grips with it….and my photos kept going in the wrong places, and they were all upside down and inside out…or so it seemed to me. So here I am again having another attempt. Hopefully I am a little bit more savy with all of this technical malarkey.
We’ve had a hectic couple of weeks with decorating the boy’s bedrooms. How does decorating one room seem to turn the whole house upside down?….especially an already bursting at the seams house with nowhere to put all of the stuff that has to be removed from said room, let alone rooms. I did however find time to focus on my current love of combining yarn and fabric / crochet and patchwork. I have so, so many ideas whizzing around in my cluttered mind, so it’s good to be able to get some of them out and turn them into actual creations.
I managed to finish an ‘All Mixed Up’ blanket and cushion order. This was my second order of this type of blanket/quilt, this one being quite a bit smaller. My first one was huge, measuring 220 x 220 cms. It took me a very long time, and was made over the summer…so it went camping, to the beach hut, and it even went on holiday to France. I’ve included a couple of photos, and as you can see it is reversible. I loved sending my customer progress pictures of all the lovely places it went to.
I also had urges to make another ‘Happy Scrappy Doo Dah’ wall hanging/bunting/banner….what would you call it? I first made one of these around 12 years ago, and then made another in the summer with a fabric top…but this time I wanted to bring more crochet in, so I crocheted the top strip. I love making these, and they make me so happy…all full of my favourite things…flowers, polka dots, ric rac, crochet trim, crochet, tassels and buttons….what’s not to love???
I told myself that I was not to do any Christmas making this year……but I just couldn’t resist having another go at some Fairies….I last made these many years ago. I changed my original design a little bit as my first design involved pipe cleaners to stiffen the wings, and I wasn’t too keen on that. I came up with the plan to pva several layers of netting together and sprinkle it all with glitter…and it worked!!!!. I have to say I have a rather poorly, pierced finger from all that hand stitching, but I very much enjoyed making them
I had so much fun choosing their outfits and hair colours. I love the gal with the blue hair, and I have confess I’m a bit jealous of the length of her hair…..mine was not far off a few weeks ago, but I got fed up with it and turned it into a length more like the gal with the black hair. I do so love their jingly bell shoes. I tend to wear bells upon my ankles in the summer, on elastic…all mixed up with buttons and beads…but these can prove to be a touch uncomfortable with socks and boots…I rather miss the summer. I love the middle picture, with their arms and legs stuffed up their skirts for safe keeping, and the faceless ones stuffing escaping rather looks like wind…that’ll be the child within (me, not the Fairy)
Anyway, if you are still here, then thank you for sticking with my ramblings. I was setting myself a target of posting once a week, but if I say every two weeks that might be a bit more realistic.
See you soon, Alfie x
A huge thank you to Joe and Darren at Melbek for all of their input and patience.
